"WELCOME TO DURHAM, USA" THE DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE'S IN DURHAM ON JANUARY 18TH AT AMERICAN TOBACCO HISTORIC DISTRICT-BAY 7!

Durham, N.C. - The documentary film "Welcome To Durham, USA (Winner of the Best Documentary Award at the 2006 NY International Film Festival), which profiles the past and present culture in Durham, North Carolina, will be screened in Durham at American Tobacco Historic District-Bay 7 on January 18th @ 7PM. The American Tobacco Historic District-Bay 7 is located at 318 Blackwell Street across from the Durham Bulls Baseball stadium. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion (“Life after Welcome to Durham, what practical community
involvement looks like and what can you do to make an impact”
) that will include some of Durham's most respected community leaders and will be moderated by the Producer of the film Christopher "Play" Martin.

Welcome To Durham, USA is produced by Christopher “Play” Martin and executive produced by Durham natives Cicero Leak and Mike Wilson of RDU 919 Music l Films, LLC, a production company in Durham and associate produced by Courtney Conrad and Courtney Tucker. The documentary illustrates how crime and gang violence is no longer the exclusive domain of urban cities like Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, and how prostitutes, street hustlers and gang members live in the shadow of violence and under the constant threat of going to jail and death.

There are more than 30 gangs in Durham, totaling nearly 800 active members, averaging between 18 and 25 in ages. The eye-opening and raw portrayal of the street life and gang environment through the film’s unprecedented access helps put a face on the growing problem around the country, and sends a powerful message about situations in which inner-city youth-some as young as 11 or 12-find themselves immersed.

The documentary and soundtrack are scheduled to be released in stores January 23, 2007 (Find it at your local video store, Target, Wal-Mart, Barnes & Nobles, FYE, Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Netflix.com, Amazon.com and iTunes).
